Make a Difference in Aboriginal Mental Health

Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Service (TAMS) is seeking a passionate Aboriginal Mental Health Worker to support the social and emotional wellbeing of our community. If you have experience in mental health and a strong commitment to culturally appropriate, person-centred care, we want to hear from you!

About the Role

As an Aboriginal Mental Health Worker, you will provide recovery-focused support to clients requiring mental health services. You will work closely with clinical teams and external service providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for Aboriginal people in our community.

Key Responsibilities:

✔ Deliver culturally safe mental health support using a person-centred approach
✔ Develop, implement & review individualised support plans
✔ Provide Aboriginal Mental Health educational training to the community and services
✔ Build strong partnerships with external service providers & government agencies
✔ Maintain accurate client records & reports to support program delivery
✔ Contribute to quality improvement and compliance with mental health service standards


About You
To be successful in this role, you will need:
-Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and be accepted by the community
-Tertiary qualification in mental health, social work, psychology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
-Experience working within a recovery-focused, person-centred mental health framework
-Excellent communication skills to engage with clients, services, and community stakeholders
-Understanding of confidentiality, diversity, and human rights in mental health practice
-Ability to navigate compliance, quality standards, and reporting requirements
-Current Driver’s Licence, Police Check, and Working with Children Check

Desirable (Not Essential):
Experience working in an Aboriginal health or primary care setting
Demonstrated experience in funding submissions and program writing
